Award winning Journalist, My Ass
It is time again to take another hard look at our local newspaper, The Mountain Echo and its publisher Walter (everything unfit for print) Caldwell. What has spurred this event is the discovery of the, Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics http://www.spj.org/ethicscode.asp , which clearly spells out the do’s and don’ts of journalism. Unfortunately, all his awards and accolades aside, Mr. Caldwell is provably a serial offender of this code.
Not once, but on numerous occasions Caldwell has been caught mischaracterizing, fabricating or downright misquoting subjects in his articles about the Fall River Mills Community Services District (CSD). He has been (at least over the past two years, since his favorite ex-CSD manager decided to not continue his tenure) at war with the CSD Board in general and our latest manager in particular, despite the accomplishments of the new leadership.
Aiding and abetting this verbal violator, adverb absconder, semi-colon criminal and grammar graffiti artist is non-other than bureaucratic lackey- come-Attila the Hun, LAFCO (Local Area Formation Counsel) director Amy Mickelson. On more than one occasion, Caldwell has printed direct quotes from Mickelson that are not only untrue, but not found in law either. And at least once, Caldwell printed direct quotes from Mickelson to CSD communications that were not received at the CSD until the day the Echo was on the stand. Now that is fast reporting, since the Echo only comes out once a week.
In fact, it has become a competitive exercise to see how many mistakes Caldwell makes between a Wednesday CSD general meeting and the following Tuesday’s Echo. On several Tuesday’s I am left to wonder if Mr. Caldwell and I were at the same meeting, with all the mischaracterizations and outright fabrications. It got so bad that I requested the CSD to announce at the beginning of every meeting: “If anyone from the Press does not understand what took place at this meeting, please ask questions before you leave, so that we will not see your ignorance in print on Tuesday”.
So far they haven’t taken me up on it and have “suffered in silence” since.
A few months ago, after a LAFCO Executive Board meeting, The Echo printed a direct misquote my wife had made at that Board meeting. Problem for Mr. Caldwell was that she was reading directly from a prepared text. Rightfully so, she walked into Caldwell’s office with quote in hand. He printed an anemic correction the next week. Problem is he never learns from his mistakes (well you can’t really call these mistakes, because they are either chronic ignorance or a determined effort to deceive, both wrong on so many levels) and plods forward on a quest to get public opinion against the CSD and its manager.
A few days ago I received a disturbing call from an old friend, questioning the motives and direction of the CSD and its manager. Problem was he was mostly quoting the Echo. I cautioned him that Walt Caldwell was either an idiot or had an unending grudge against the current administration and board of the CSD. I reminded my friend that nobody, I mean nobody, had said a word while the previous 20 years of managers and boards squandered hundreds of thousands of dollars of ratepayer money, right under the nose of the Echo. But they are now are all up in fabricated outrage over distorted and manufactured drama that would make the National Enquirer, The Globe or the Star blush.
But not good ole crazy uncle Walt. He just keeps on cranking out his version of reality, in head to head competition with the best of the Paranoid Schizophrenics on the Thorazine highway.
Our problem, as a responsible community, is to have a vehicle that can rebut the lunacy that is being spread by our sole source of local news. Ergo, you are reading this on Dumbplumber, because the panty wearing ‘wussus’ in the next town over refused to respond to my email request for space in what they represent as a ‘newspaper’. It just goes to show you how incompetent a competing newspaper is when they allow a raving loon to destroy the reputations of good and honest people trying to do the right thing.
Meanwhile, the Dumbplumber is at the helm, bringing you an accurate accounting of what the CSD is doing for the community, and what the misinformed community is trying to do to the CSD. You just can’t make this up, but leave it to the Mt. Echo to keep trying.

Battling Evil and Ignorance
I first want to apologize for not responding to last week’s Mt. Echo’s editor and publisher. Mostly because I knew I was going to just be repeating myself this week and secondly because I was hoping for the inevitable train wreck that is brewing between LAFCO director Amy Mickelson (or whatever she is calling herself this week), and CSD Legal counsel Mark Atlas.
You see, I have to take about one millisecond and figure out who I am to believe; a Bar Card carrying legal scholar with much experience in Community Service and Special districts or a job hopping, serial prevaricator of facts, fabricator of rules and promoter of friction, all designed to thwart, delay and deny CSD’ and Special Districts everywhere of their severely past due Reviews and Reports.
And to make things worse for the Fall River Mills Community Services District, Ms. Mickelson has teamed up with the Mt. Echo’s (private axe-grinder for publisher and editor) Walt Caldwell, whose masthead should read: “The Mountain Echo: All the Bias, Rumors and Innuendo Unfit for Print“. And it doesn’t begin to reflect Caldwell’s inability to compose an accurate headline.
For instance in last week’s Echo, the headline said, “CSD deciding not to cooperate?” When it would have been more accurate to say, “CSD Tired of Getting Hosed.” And then this week, Caldwell continues to play the part of Mickelson’s butt boy with, “CSD gives attorney okay to fight Shasta LAFCO”, when it should have read, “CSD Hires Attorney to Force LAFCO Do its Job”. It really makes that “….sin by silence” thingy over his Editorial page just scream in agony. Because every time he makes one of his moronic statements it’s like fingernails on the blackboard, at the back of your eyeballs.
Nevermind that the entrails of his reporting is a series of incoherent ramblings, disguised as an interview with Ms. Mickelson on the substance of HER view of things. I was particularly amused when Mickelson claimed that she was ever sensitive not to violate the Brown Act, when that was exactly what she was doing last spring, when she showed up at a special meeting, unannounced, and demanded time for a presentation, which, without being on the agenda, was a clear violation of that Act. Still waiting for a response from Caldwell on that comment. ………………Crickets!

No More Palins
Well, we all knew it had to happen, sooner or later. Dick Cheney has crawled out from under his pile of Halliburton dividend checks to make one of the dumbest comments in history. His advice to Mitt Romney was that he, “should not chose another Sarah Palin to run as Vice President”.
Absolutely Dick, we should stick with the corral of RINO sycophants that have brought us to this moment. You know, the ones that have allowed hundreds of thousands of abusive, controlling, and in many cases, outrageous laws and regulations that is strangling the life out of this country. That should do the trick.
So, maybe we should look at this another way. How many in Mr. Cheney’s approved republican stable have ever considered repealing any of the regulations that are putting a foot on the neck of America? How many have even considered prosecuting felonious members of the Republican inner circle, for abuse of power, insider trading or just plain old crony capitalism? And as a coup de gras, how many have a clue that we have already gone over the cliff, and without some major changes, we’re going to hit bottom very hard.
Nosiree, we don’t want no stinking reformers, no stinking problem solvers or no stinking Conservatives. No, what we want is some more robo-republicans to keep on doing the same things, but expecting a different outcome. I won’t burden you with what that means, you probably hear it every day.
On the other hand, I once had a long and endearing respect for Mr. Cheney. He came out of nowhere in Wyoming to represent the state, then go on to Chief of Staff at the White House and later as Secretary of Defense and VP.
But somewhere along the line the Party Line crept into his life and America would never be the same. Dodging criticism of lack of WMDs in Iraq, Cheney went on to be a hawk, without pointing out that you would have to convince the Kurds, who were killed in mass by poison gas (a WMD), before you convinced a mob of anti-war zealots. And so the lie continued unabated.
Nope, just keep on keeping on Dicky and see how that works for you.

More Obama News
Mr. Obama has a problem with the NAACP. Mitt Romney has a problem with the Tea Party, Independents and Conservatives. They both are taking these groups for granted. And they do this at their peril. Mitt believes conservatives will vote for him, because they would never vote for Obama. Obama knows blacks will vote for him, because who else are they voting for?
Well, here’s a clue for you two nitwits, studies are already showing that many who voted for Obama, are not voting this time around. Mittens can count on me to be among that group.

Likewise the candidate’s VP picks. If Barack keeps Biden and Romney picks Condi Rice, they’ll both be making a mistake.

I can’t help but notice that the steady drumbeat of resistance to voter ID never is rebutted by the notion that these same impoverished blacks and minority factions need an ID to receive Food Stamps, EBT cards, welfare or any other public assistance. If they don’t need an ID for these, well then our entitlement Czars are far more ignorant than usual.

Looks like labor unions don’t have to worry about donating billions to get their hand picked representatives elected, while letting their pension and healthcare benefits go under-funded. Not to worry, Obama backfilled much of the shortfall with taxpayer money, disguised as stimulus.

To the citizens of Fall River Mills
As a service to those who want to know what is really happening between Walt Caldwell's Mountain Echo and the Fall River Mills CSD, I provide this venue for information. All comments will be monitored for civility and, when available, accuracy. If any rise to a level advocating violence or physical retribution, they will be deleted. Remember, the difference between libel and an accusation is which side of the conversation you are on. Keep it real, keep it clear, keep it factual or it is gone. Dumbplumber
To the people of Fall River Mills:
In the four weeks since the last Fall River Mills CSD board meeting two things have become painfully clear: One, those who have taken all their CSD information from the Mt. Echo, know little more than they did a year ago.
And Two, what little information they did get was mischaracterized, erroneous or outright fabrications. Reading the Echo has become an exercise in futility. If you want to know anything about our Community Services District, you certainly can’t get it from someone who never asks questions, before putting his ignorance in print. Unfortunately, his logic could be compared to that of a demented inmate, but it hasn't stopped him from declaring his agenda with all the fabricated, self-righteous indignation he can muster.
One thing has become abundantly clear, Mr. Caldwell is not happy with our District Manager, nor the Board, and by default believes that he and LAFCO should control our future, not our citizens. It’s like he’s yearning for the Sordahl, Guldaman and Pena years, when our District was indebted well beyond its means and finances were never questioned by Mr. Caldwell. His tether to reality seemed to have snapped almost 2 years ago, when he was called to task for this serious lapse of journalistic duty. This most notably because Mr. Caldwell's desk is less than 80 feet from the District headquarters.
Truth is he wants our Manager gone. And apparently he and the LAFCO Director, who has launched her own ground war with the Manager and Board, wants everyone not kowtowing to them gone as well. Caldwell, because our Manager has accomplished more in the last year and a half than anyone in the last 30 years. And the LAFCO director, because our Manager has dared to reveal her incompetence and deceit.
And who covers up her incompetence, is our own Mr. Caldwell printing and justifying everything she says, and partnering with her to oust our manager, who has figured out her game. But instead of avoiding this highly unethical and reprehensible behavior, he is touting this conflict as high drama on the front page of the Echo. Clearly he lacks ethics, courage and shame.
About the Echo editor's only claim to fame is his religeous devotion to the Brown Act, which, I would remind everyone, was in full force, while Bell, Vallejo and San Bernadino, California were being flown into the ground. And which as we speak, is being slowly dismantled for what it is, an overzealous, unsustainable attempt to keep public entities and their members honest. Yeah, good luck with that. Just try and record the minutes of labor negotiations with public representatives.
Meanwhile, our manager and Board need to focus on progress and restoration of our District and leave the battle with the LAFCO director and Mr. Caldwell to those with the backbone and tenacity to right this public wrong. This blog may be the only venue for that effort.

Another Romney letter
Dear Mr. Romney,
I sincerely apologize for bothering you or interrupting your national ‘talking points tour’, but it is beyond time for me to talk, and you to listen.
Today I received not one, but three solicitations, from your campaign, in the mail. Nevermind that I have returned at least five of your previous fund raising solicitations with large hand written notations requesting, asking and finally demanding my name be removed from your mailing list.
Aside from the obvious fact that you are wasting trees, postage, valuable time and effort, you are simply aggravating an already sensitive situation, as I am totally and absolutely pissed off at you, your campaign and the RNC, for the way they treated Herman Cain and Sarah Palin in the primaries.
Be clear, I will NEVER vote for Obama, like I have no intention of voting for you. It is my firm belief that you will only take us to the same place as that socialist/fascist, union loving, double talking lawn jockey, but it will take a few years longer. And nothing you have said over the past few months has changed my mind. I simply want to be able to clean and reload before I start drooling oatmeal from my scooter.
Having said that, if you and your campaign lack the ability to do something as simple as removing my name from your mailing list, WHAT THE FUCKING CHANCES YOU WILL HAVE OF RUNNING THIS COUNTRY, OR LEADING A CONGRESS THAT CAN’T GIVE US BACK TOILETS THAT WORK, STOP THE INCANDESCENT LIGHT BULB BAN OR TURN OVER THE U.S. POST OFFICE TO SOMEONE THAT CAN DELIVER A FIRST CLASS LETTER FOR 40 FUCKING CENTS?
So before you even think about sending me another solicitation, you might consider a way to remedy the above and include it in a speech, because so far your platform is about as meaningful as HOPE and CHANGE.

Obamacare and Bruce
This is a response to local newspaper editor, Bruce Ross's warm and fuzzy take on the passing of Obamacare.
And in true ‘Ross’ fashion, you have drafted your entire editorial without uttering the words: ‘personal responsibility‘, ‘tort reform’ or ‘rewarding bad behavior‘. You see Bruce, your inability to predict unintended consequences is the reason America, in general, and California, in particular, are in the shape they are.
Just like “Cal Fresh” pretends to be a publicly financed smorgasbord to allure, fitness and contentment, Obamacare claims to be the express lane to wellness, financial security and a panacea to all mankind. When in fact, it is a financial nightmare in the making, the ultimate transfer of wealth from the prosperous, healthy and responsible to the irresponsible, reckless and thoughtless. And with Obama’s open borders policy, can’t you see the invasion from every country, to come here for healthcare. Yeah, I didn’t think you did.
For example, we have spent over $5 trillion on poverty since the 60’s yet we have more in “poverty” today than then. We created Medicare as a safety net for our elderly, yet over the years it was bastardized and prostituted into a lure for illegal aliens, a crutch for the drug and alcohol addicted and a cash cow for scooter manufacturers and any other medical device available to anyone with a persistent malady, self inflicted or not. And don’t get me started on the fraud, waste and abuse, that we ignore at the peril of our future.
And now you like a new $2 trillion dollar black hole that will only get bigger with the manipulation of the Bill’s text. You might want to remember this when you’re in line behind a tattoo laden, drug addicted, chain smoking, alcoholic scooter jockey waiting for your kidney transplant.
Yessir Bruce, your myopic view of what is an intentional assault on U.S. taxpayers is the reason that we aren’t just slipping into the abyss, but rather headed straight down into it in full afterburner.
